A police escort attached to an Abuja-bound train from Kaduna reportedly lost his life during a trip on Thursday morning.
According to a passenger who witnessed the incident, the deceased did not show any sign of ill health when the train left Kaduna.
However, the witness said, the deceased later complained of chest pain before he died.
“A police officer, who was one of the escorts on an Abuja-Kaduna train just died. He left home in good health. But later during the journey, he complained of chest pain and asked his colleague to get him some glucose and water.
“There was no emergency medical care on the train. Before a doctor, who was also a passenger, could come, the officer was already dead,” the passenger narrated.
After the officer died, his remains were moved to a side of the train, while his face was covered. Security operatives on ground prevented passengers from recording the incident.
The train arrived at Kubwa in Abuja around 3:20 pm after which passengers disembarked.
About 20 minutes after the arrival of the train, a police van drove into the station to pick up the corpse to a mortuary.
An Official of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) who spoke to TheFact Daily on condition of anonymity said, “We will confirm, it is between the living and the dead. Remember I am not the Police PRO. I have to confirm from Kaduna. I can not speak on behalf of the police,”.
