The Oyo State Police Command has successfully foiled a kidnapping attempt and rescued a victim, following a swift and coordinated response by its operatives.
The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, eho disclosed this on Sunday, the incident occurred in the early hours of 24 January 2026.
According to him, the Command at about 2:10 a.m. received a distress call from a resident, Alimot, of the Ojongbodu area of Oyo State, to the effect that suspected kidnappers armed with dangerous weapons had invaded her brother’s residence.
During the attack, the assailants abducted Haruna Lawal of Olorunda Village, Oyo, and fled the scene with his motorcycle to an unknown location.
Acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Femi Haruna, police operatives were immediately deployed to the area. The prompt response and aggressive bush-combing operation mounted by the officers exerted pressure on the suspects.
As patrol teams advanced into the area with sirens blaring, the kidnappers, sensing the tightening security presence, abandoned their victim and escaped.
The victim was rescued alive but sustained a head injury during the ordeal. He was promptly taken to the General Hospital, Oyo, where he is currently receiving medical attention.
Olayinka averred that the rescue, achieved within hours of the abduction, highlights the professionalism, vigilance and commitment of the Oyo State Police Command to the protection of lives and property.
CP Femi Haruna commended the officers involved in the operation, as well as collaborating partners, for their courage and dedication to duty. This is even as efforts have been intensified to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects, while investigations into the incident continue.
The Oyo State Police Command reassured residents of its resolve to ensure that criminals have no hiding place in the state and urged the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information.
