Police Nab Human Trafficking Suspects In Rivers

Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have successfully apprehended two notorious suspects linked to a child trafficking syndicate currently under investigation.

The Command’s spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, said on Monday that diligent investigation and intelligence gathering led operatives to Aba, Abia state where the suspects, Sunshine Hart and Kingsley Ekocha, were arrested.

According to her, during the operation, a pregnant woman, Regina Sunday, aged 24, was rescued from the clutches of the traffickers and is currently in protective custody.

“As fate would have it, Regina Sunday went into labor on June 30, 2025, and was promptly rushed to the Police Clinic in Port Harcourt, where she was safely delivered of a baby boy. Both mother and child are receiving medical attention and are in stable condition”, Iringe-Koko said, adding that investigation is ongoing, with a focus on tracking down other members of the nefarious syndicate.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, while reiterating the Command’s steadfast commitment in protecting the public and upholding the rule of law, urged members of the public to continue supporting its operational efforts by reporting all suspicious human trafficking activities and providing intelligence that can aid investigations in their efforts to eradicate this menace.
