Police Neutralize Suspected Armed Robbers, Recover Arms In Delta
Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have neutralized a suspected notorious armed robber, from whom several weapons and charms were recovered.
The Command’s public relations officer, DSP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.
According to him, the Orogun division of the Command received information on Friday, 13 January 2023, at about 4:45pm, that some suspected notorious armed robbers who had been on the Command’s wanted list over their involvement in a foiled robbery operation in Orogun sometime in June last year, were sighted within the Unukpo – Orogun palm tree plantation.
The DPO, Orogun division, promptly mobilized and led police operatives to the area, who upon arrival on the scene were met with resistance as the hoodlums opened fire on them, to which they equally responded.
However, due to the superior fire power of the Police, the hoodlums took to flight. In the gun duel that ensued, the gang leader, one Bobo Ononibe ‘m’ aged 26yrs, sustained serious gunshot injuries, and was taken to the hospital where he was later certified dead by the doctor on duty.
One locally made cut-to-size gun, 3 cartridges, 1 machete, 1 dagger, and some native charms among others were recovered, while efforts are on to arrest the fleeing members of the gang.
Similarly, on Monday, 16 January, at about 11:25am, the DPO Agbarho Division received a distress call that some members of Ewherhe community in Agbarho, Ughelli North LGA, caught a suspected armed robber along Ewherhe/Ovu road with one locally made cut-to-size double barrel gun and 1 live cartridge, some suspected stolen items which include, 1 iPhone 11 pro-max, 1 HP laptop, 1 MP3 player, and a cash sum of 8,220 naira.
Upon arrival at the scene, the team dispatched by the DPO rescued the suspect, who had been badly beaten by the mob that left the scene on sighting the police.
However, the suspect died while receiving treatment, investigation is ongoing.
Meanwhile, the Police Chief in the State, CP Ari Muhammed Ali, while applauding the gallantry of the operatives of Orogun division for their bravery, condemned jungle justice, and advised members of the public to desist from it, noting that it is not the right thing to do.
Rather, suspects when caught by members of the community, should be handed over to the Police for diligent investigation and prosecution.
