The Edo State Police Command has expressed concern over the tragic circumstances surrounding the death of Osaiyekemwen Ugbo, which reportedly occurred on April 1, 2026, between 11:30 p.m. and midnight at a residence in the Royal Community, FO1 area of Abuja.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, ASP Eno Ikoedem, said on Tuesday, that the case was formally reported by a family member, Osasenaga Ugbuo Samuel, who alleged that the deceased’s husband, Evans Ehigienusoe, informed them of her death on April 2, 2026.
The family further claimed that the deceased had suffered prolonged domestic violence in the hands of the suspect, which they believe may have contributed to her death.
The Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, CP Monday Agbonika, assured the bereaved family and the public that the Command treats such matters with utmost seriousness and is committed to ensuring justice is served.
According to the command, preliminary findings indicate that the alleged offense did not occur within Edo State’s jurisdiction. It however stated that it will carry out all necessary preliminary processes to gather relevant evidence before transferring the case to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command for further investigation and possible prosecution, in line with the Administration of Criminal Justice Act.
Police also confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody.
The Command, while commiserating with the family of the deceased, assured them that their demand for justice will not be ignored. It reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives, upholding the rule of law, and ensuring that offenders are brought to justice.
Members of the public were urged to remain calm and law-abiding while allowing due process to take its course.
