The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has recorded significant breakthroughs in separate high-profile cases of human trafficking and kidnapping, as the operatives have rescued two kidnap victims and arrested three in the process.
Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who disclosed the development in a statement on Friday, said the successful operations further reinforces the NPF’s resolve to dismantle criminal networks across the country.
He narrated that on 30th July 2025, at about 2:00 p.m., operatives of the Enugu State Police Command, while on routine patrol along the Enugu–Onitsha Expressway, intercepted a suspected human trafficker, Raymond Sunday Wonna, aged 30, and rescued two (2) young female victims identified as Miracle Ogar (aged 18) and Angela Kingsley (aged 16).
According to Adejobi, preliminary investigations revealed that the victims were deceitfully lured from Ogoja, Cross River State, under the pretext of securing job opportunities in Ghana. Without the knowledge or consent of their parents, the suspect, who claimed to be a casual labourer, intended to transport them to work in a restaurant allegedly owned by his “baby mama” in Ghana. Further findings indicate that while lodging the victims in a hotel pending departure, the suspect attempted to sexually assault them.
He said the swift intervention of the operatives not only thwarted the illicit journey but also ensured that the victims were safely returned to their families, adding efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the trafficking network.
In a related development, Force PRO said the operatives of the Taraba State Police Command, acting on credible intelligence, recorded another victory in the fight against violent crime on 13th August 2025, at about 10:00 a.m., when the state operatives, in collaboration with local security outfits, stormed Mahadi Forest in Gassol LGA, successfully arresting two (2) suspected kidnappers identified as Yahaya Umar (20 years, male), and Mohammed Umar (47 years, male), in possession of an AK-47 rifle.
He said the suspects have confessed to being members of a kidnapping syndicate responsible for several attacks in Plateau and Taraba States, disclosing that investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang and dismantle their operational network.
Adejobi said while commending the operatives for their vigilance and swift action, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, assured citizens of the Force’s unrelenting commitment to the safety of all, further directing a meticulous and speedy investigation that will lead to the prosecution of all culprits.
He said the Nigeria Police Force remains steadfast in its mission to protect citizens from criminal elements operating within and across borders.
