PSC Extends Police Constable Recruitment Deadline As Applications Hit 400,000
By Anne Osemekeh, Abuja

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has announced a two-week extension of the ongoing recruitment exercise for 50,000 police constables following an overwhelming response from applicants nationwide.
In a statement on Monday, the Commission said the application portal, which opened on December 15, 2025, will now close on February 8, 2026, instead of the earlier deadline.
According to the PSC, more than 400,000 applications have been received so far, prompting a review that revealed wide disparities in participation across states.
While states such as Adamawa, Benue and Kaduna recorded high numbers of applicants, others including Lagos, Ogun, Bayelsa, Ebonyi and Anambra posted comparatively low figures.
The extension, the Commission explained, is aimed at promoting equitable representation from all parts of the country. Eligible Nigerians, particularly from states with lower application rates, were urged to take advantage of the extended window and apply through the official recruitment portal at http://npfapplication.psc.gov.ng.
The PSC also called on state governments, local government councils, sociocultural and religious organisations, community leaders and other stakeholders to intensify sensitisation efforts and encourage qualified candidates within their jurisdictions to apply before the new deadline.
The Commission, in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), reaffirmed its commitment to a fair, transparent and merit-based recruitment process.
