Nigerian Billionaire and Founder, BUA Group, Abdul Samad Rabiu, has fulfilled his $500,000 pledge to Nigeria’s Super Eagles, praising their courage and dedication after their semifinal penalty shootout loss to host Morocco at AFCON 2025.

Abdul Rabiu, in a statement via his official X handle, promised to redeem his pledge to Super Eagles despite their heartbreaking exit from the 2025 AFCON.

The Super Eagles’ 2025 AFCON dream ended in the semifinals on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, when they fell 4-2 on penalties to the host nation after a tense 0-0 draw following 120 minutes of play at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.

Nigeria had impressed throughout the tournament, posting a perfect group-stage record, scoring 14 goals before the semis, and defeating Algeria 2-0 in the quarterfinals under coach Eric Chelle.

Rabiu’s pledge came after the quarterfinal victory over Algeria on January 10, when he promised $500,000 upon winning the semifinal, plus $50,000 per goal scored in that match, and an additional $1 million plus $100,000 per goal if they claimed the title.

Even though the team did not advance, Rabiu stood by his promise.

His statement read thus: “To our brave Super Eagles,”You fought with your hearts, gave your all, and showed true courage and determination on the pitch. Though it wasn’t meant to be this time, you have made every Nigerian proud.

“Sometimes, even our best efforts don’t bring the outcome we hope for, but the spirit, passion, and unity you displayed are what truly matter. You left everything on the field, and that is worthy of celebration.

“As a token of appreciation for your remarkable journey and effort, I am still going ahead to fulfill the pledge of $500,000 USD. This is in recognition of your hard work, dedication, and the joy you have brought to our nation.

“Keep your heads high, Super Eagles – the experience, lessons, and spirit will fuel even greater success next time. Nigeria will always be proud of you, and we believe in your future victories.”
