Retired Immigration Boss Killed By Kidnappers In Abuja

By Anne Osemekeh, Abuja

Retired Comptroller General of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), David Parradang, has been killed by kidnappers in Abuja.

Security analyst and counter insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, on Tuesday, quoted sources as saying that Parradang was abducted in Area 1, Abuja, in the early hours of Tuesday after being trailed from a bank where he had withdrawn money.

TheFact Daily reports that this tragic incident has heightened fresh concerns over security in the Federal Capital Territory, particularly regarding the increasing cases of kidnappings and targeted attacks. On Monday 17 February, Afenifere Youth Council leader, Prince Eniola Ojajuni, was abducted on his way to Abuja. The kidnappers had demanded a ransom of N100 million. Olajuni was rescued on March 1, after 12 days in captivity.

Only yesterday, there were reports of the abduction on Sunday, of a senior police officer, CSP Modestus Ojiebe, attached to the Kwara State Police Command, by suspected armed men along Kubwa Expressway in Abuja. He was however rescued the following day by operatives of the FCT Police command.

Makama said that according to intelligence sources the assailants took the cash from him before eventually killing him.

Parradang, who served in the NIS for over 30 years, held various positions across the country, including Comptroller General and postings in Kano, Lagos, Kwara, Enugu, and the Federal Capital Territory. He also attended several professional courses both within Nigeria and internationally.

In recognition of his service, he was awarded the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR) and was a distinguished graduate of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS).

Security agencies have reportedly launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his abduction and killing, with efforts ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators.
