Rivers: Fubara Supporters Chase Away 23 Council Chairmen, Take Over Secretariats
By Sunday Etuka, Abuja
Supporters alleged to be Pro-Siminalayi Fubara, the Rivers State Governor, have chased away the 23 Local government council chairmen from their offices.
Lamenting the incident on his X handle on Tuesday, the Ikwere LGA Chairman and Wike ally, Hon. Samuel Nwanosike called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the crises in Rivers state.
Hon. Nwanosike while speaking, accused Gov. Fubara of inciting violence in the state.
Recall that Gov. Fubara in a State Broadcast earlier today asked the 23 local government Chairmen, Vice Chairmen and Councilors whose tenure expired yesterday, June 17, 2024 to vacate their offices.
He thereafter, directed the Heads of Local Government Administration (HLGAS) to take charge and provide leadership in their respective Local Government Areas until further directives.
“Heads of Local Government Administration (HLGAS) are hereby directed to immediately take charge of the Councils with renewed vigor and readiness to serve and await further directives as we navigate towards even greater accomplishments together”, he said.
Shortly after this announcement, the Pro-Fubata supporters took over the 23 local government areas, and chased away the Council Chairmen.
