The Director of Army Public Relations, DAPR, Brig-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, has called for collaboration between the Nigerian Army, NA, and the media to tackle security challenges confronting the nation.
Nwachukwu stated this earlier today on the occasion of his assumption of office as the new spokesperson of the Nigerian Army in Abuja.
TheFact Nigeria recalls that the Chief of Army Staff, COAS, had, on 10 June, approved the implementation of a reorganization within the Army, in line with his vision for a professional Nigerian Army ready to accomplish assigned missions in defence of the country. The postings and appoitnments saw Nwachukwu take over as Army Public Relations Chief from erstwhile Director, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Yerima.
According to Nwachukwu, “it is an indisputable and very well established fact, that the sword or gun cannot alone, provide a panacea to the complex and multifaceted security challenges that characterize today’s world.”
He stated that he had no doubt in his mind, of the responsibilities of his office as the DAPR, which is “summarily to project the activities of the NA with the objective of galvanizing public goodwill and support for the NA, as its strives assiduously to surmount contemporary security challenges bedeviling our nation”.
He further went on, “I must therefore, make haste to say that the complex nature of these security challenges requires multi-disciplinary approach and a conglomerate of stakeholders of which the media is a very vital one.
“In decisively overcoming these challenges, the NA and the media must be partners in progress to surmount this security threats in order to berth the peace and tranquility we all earnestly desire as a people and nation.”
