The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has reiterated the Army’s commitment to staying ahead of emerging threats, assuring Nigerians that with stronger collaboration among the Armed Forces, security agencies, and citizens, insecurity would “soon become a thing of the past.”

Shaibu made the reiteration on Thursday, during a courtesy to the Enugu State Governor, Barrister Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, who praised the Nigerian Army’s renewed commitment to national security under its new leadership.

A statement on Friday by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Lt. Col. Appolonia Anele, said Gov. Mbah noted that since General Shaibu assumed office, his leadership style has demonstrated seriousness, discipline, and strategic clarity.

He congratulated the COAS on his appointment, describing it as well deserved given his exceptional record in previous commands across the North East and other formations, and also expressed delight that Enugu hosted the 2nd Regimental Sergeant Majors’ Convention, saying the state was honoured to welcome the Army Chief and his team.

Responding, the COAS, who was accompanied on the visit to the Government House by senior Army Headquarters officers, thanked the Governor and the people of Enugu State for their sustained support to the Nigerian Army and other security agencies. He gave assurances that the NA would remain proactive in tackling security challenges confronting the nation.

During his visit, the COAS also addressed troops of 82 Division at the Division Headquarters and the Forward Operations Base in Ivo, Abia State, where he commended their dedication and sacrifices, noting that their efforts have significantly improved the security situation across the South East. He reaffirmed that troop welfare remains a top priority and pledged increased attention to accommodation challenges in Army barracks nationwide.

Shaibu later attended the closing ceremony of the 2nd Regimental Sergeant Majors’ Convention, with the theme “RSM Roles in Operational Readiness and Combat Effectiveness.”

Delivering his remarks as Special Guest of Honour, he described the gathering as symbolic, marking his first official engagement as COAS. He emphasized that the convention provided a platform for enhancing discipline, leadership, and regimentation across all Army formations.

Earlier, the Chief of Administration (Army), Major General Isa Abdullahi, commended the RSMs for their unwavering commitment to discipline. He noted that the convention strengthened participants’ understanding of their core responsibilities and improved their leadership capacity.

Certificates were later presented to participants drawn from both military and paramilitary agencies.
