Senate Approves Nigerian Troops Deployment To Benin Republic

The Nigerian Senate has given legislative approval to President Bola Tinubu’s request to deploy Nigerian troops to Benin Republic for peace mission.

This was announced on Tuesday by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during plenary session, in line with the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria.

President Tinubu had earlier transmitted a letter to the Senate seeking approval for the deployment of troops to the troubled neighbour nation.

Tinubu explained that the deployment was necessary to provide support in the country as requested by President Patrice Talon, following the recent failed coup attempt.

As expected, the Senate on Tuesday gave express approval for the deployment of the troops to the country.

Speaking, the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio explained that the expeditious approval was to ensure peace and stability and to avoid humanitarian crisis in the subregion.

He said the Senate believes the action was a good step in the right direction.
