By Sunday Etuka, Abuja

Vice President Kashim Shettima has invited the Minister of State Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd), and the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mr. Nuhu Ribadu over the scarcity and recent hike in the pump price of petrol in the country.

TheFact Daily gathered that the Vice President is meeting with them in his office at the State House, Abuja.

Recall that the NNPC Ltd on Tuesday announced a hike in the pump price of petrol across its outlets nationwide.

The price was jerked up from the previous N617/litre to N855/litre, with others marketers pegging their prices between N940/litre and N1,200/litre.

Despite the price hike, petrol stations are still not open to motorists as queues continue to build even in the city centre in Abuja.

While commenting on the price hike on Tuesday, the Minister said, there was no directive from the federal government to the NNPC to increase the pump price of the petrol.

He noted that NNPC Ltd operates as an independent entity under the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA), with a fully empowered Board of Directors.

Noting that the Ministry of Petroleum Resources does not, and will not, interfere in the internal decisions of NNPCL, including pricing matters.
