Shi’ite Attack: Police Confirm Two Officers Dead, Three Unconscious

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has confirmed the arrest of some members of the proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria, popularly known as the ‘Shi’ite’ group, following the attack on five of its officers in Wuse, leaving two dead and three unconscious.

Police Public Relations Officer, FCT Command, SP Josephine Adeh, who confirmed this in a statement issued on Sunday on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, FCT, Abuja, revealed that three Police patrol vehicles were also set ablaze.

SP Adeh narrated that the proscribed organisation attacked the police checkpoint unprovoked, wielding machetes, improvised explosive devices (locally made bombs in bottles with kerosene), and knives.

She said, while several arrests have been effected, the Commissioner of Police, FCT, CP Benneth Igweh, Condemned the unprovoked attack on Police officers, and promised to bring those involved to book.

She disclosed that the situation has been brought under control and normalcy restored.

The PPRO assured that further development would be communicated in due course.
