Sokoto Governor Grants Pardon To Nine Inmates

The Executive Governor of Sokoto State, Dr. Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, has graciously approved pardons for 9 inmates at the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC) in Sokoto.

The spokesperson of the state’s Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Hamza Dingyadi, in a statement on Thursday , disclosed that the pardons, which include unconditional releases and conditional pardons, were granted on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.

Representing the Governor, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, Barr. Lema Wali, stated that the gesture aligns with Section 212 of the Nigerian Constitution and acknowledges the inmates’ good conduct and behavior.

The Governor donated ₦50,000 to each of the 9 released inmates to support transportation and small business startup for self-reliance.

The Controller of Corrections, Sokoto State Command, CC Lawal Guasu, welcomed the Governor’s representative and committee members to the Centre and expressed gratitude for the Governor’s gesture, which supports the service’s policies and programs aimed at decongesting custodial facilities nationwide.

The Controller urged the released inmates to become good ambassadors by applying the skills and knowledge acquired through the centre’s reformation and rehabilitation programs.
