
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has commended the people of Watuolo Village, Utonkon in Ado local government area of Benue State, for their vigilance and swift action towards the arrest of a vandal in the community.
TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs , Mrs Ndidi Mbah, who gave the commendation in a statement issued late on Wednesday, said that the timely intervention of the community thwarted the vandalism of Tower T195 along the Ugwuaji – Makurdi 330kV transmission Line on Saturday, January 25, 2025.
She explained that the members of the community noticed a suspicious activity around the tower at about 3.am and promptly apprehended one of the vandals while the others escaped. Revealing that the vandal was handed over to the police.
While commending the people of Watuolo Village for their vigilance and swift action, TCN appealed to other communities hosting critical infrastructure to emulate this example and take ownership of protecting transmission installations in their vicinity.
“As we continue to work with security operatives and host communities against vandalism, we continue to appeal for more vigilance by residents in the communities, who we believe are very critical in this fight,” it said.
TCN had reported a surge in vandalism of power infrastructure since the beginning of this year, with over 18 transmission towers vandalized between January 9 and 14, 2025, across Rivers, Abia, and Kano States
