President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of soldiers of the 29 Task Force Brigade, Operation HADIN KAI, who were killed in a coordinated terrorist attack on their base in Benisheikh, Borno State.
In a statement issued on Thursday by Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President extended heartfelt condolences to the Armed Forces and the families of the fallen troops, urging them to remain steadfast despite the painful loss.
TheFact Daily had earlier reported that troops engaged insurgents who attempted to breach the defensive perimeter of the military formation. While troops succeeded in repelling the attackers, some of them paid the ultimate price.
President Tinubu commended the bravery and resilience of the soldiers, noting that they fought gallantly to repel the attackers and prevent insurgents from overrunning the communities under their protection.
While mourning the fallen, he urged military leadership and frontline troops not to lose morale but to draw strength from the nation’s gratitude and unwavering support.
“From the reports I have received, our armed forces have been conducting sustained and intense land and air offensives against insurgents, neutralising many of their fighters and commanders. This counterattack is a sign of desperation.
“I extend my condolences to the families of our gallant soldiers, led by Brigadier-General Oseni Omoh Braimah, who paid the ultimate price in defence of our nation. Their sacrifices will never be forgotten and will not be in vain. Because of their courage and dedication, our resolve to defeat terrorism remains stronger than ever.
Tinubu urged troops not to be discouraged, but to continue to serve with honour, courage, and patriotism, promising that his administration will continue to support them with the necessary equipment and ensure their welfare.
He also called on Nigerians and the media to stand firmly with the Armed Forces. “We must never celebrate or condone attacks against our troops. These soldiers are our heroes—unforgettable and irreplaceable.”
The President also conveyed condolences to the government and people of Borno State, reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to working closely with the state to achieve lasting peace and total victory over insurgency.
