Tinubu Signs Bill Reintroducing Old National Anthem Into Law

President Bola Tinubu has signed the “National Anthem Bill, 2024” into Law to reintroduce the old national anthem, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee”.

Senate President, Godswill Akpabio announced this during a joint session of the National Assembly to commemorate the Silver Jubilee of Nigeria’s 4th Republic on Wednesday.

The Silver Jubilee event was organized to marked the first anniversary of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Shortly, after his arrival at the National Assembly, the President endorsed the old anthem “Nigeria, we hail thee” as the “new national anthem”, of the country.

Akpabio who disclosed that the session was held to introduce the updated national anthem, noted that the President would not deliver a speech as he needed to depart to inaugurate the Abuja metro line.

The National Assembly gave an accelerated hearing, and passed the Bill to change the national anthem from “Arise, O Compatriots” to “Nigeria, We Hail Thee”

With the President’s assent, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee” has become the official national anthem of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
