Troops Arrest Suspected Terrorists, Gunrunners In Kaduna

Troops of 37 Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) Demonstration Battalion have intercepted and arrested 3 suspected gunrunners along Kauya – Old Afaka – Sabon Birni Road area in Igabi LGA of Kaduna state.

Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations 1 Division Nigerian Army, Lt. Col. Shuaibu Umar, made this known on Friday, saying the arrest on Thursday , 10 July was made possible
by acting on credible intelligence while on fighting patrol.

The suspects, Yakubu Jilbril, 45, Abubakar Yahaya, 45 and Isiya Sani, 30, were driving in a black Golf 4 car with registration number Abuja YAB 385 K7 when they were arrested with a large cache of arms and ammunition suspected to be meant for criminals in the bush.

Items found in their possession include; quantity 9 AK-47 rifles, 384 quantity of 7.62mm (special) live rounds, 54 quantity of 5.56 x 45mm (NATO), 12 magazines, 4 GSM handset, 1 magazine carrier, 1 machete, some charms, tyre gums as well as the sum of 365,000 in cash among others.

Umar said the suspects are presently under custody for further interrogation and investigation.

“The Nigerian Army wishes to assure law abiding citizens that it will continue to deny terrorists and their sponsors freedom of action in order to enhance safety and security in Nigeria”, Umar stated.
