Troops Foil Deadly Ambush In Kebbi, Kill Five Terrorists

Troops of 8 Division Nigerian Army have foiled a deadly ambush on the convoy of the General Officer Commanding (GOC), eliminating five suspected terrorists and recovering a cache of weapons in Kebbi State.

According to a statement on Monday by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations
8 Division Nigerian Army / Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lt. Col. Olaniyi Osoba, the General Officer Commanding 8 Division and Commander Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Bemgha Koughna, was en route to visit frontline troops when his convoy came under heavy attack near Mayama Hill.

The convoy, moving through a volatile forested stretch, was suddenly engaged by suspected members of the Lakurawa terrorist group.
Troops swiftly returned fire, overpowering the assailants.

In the ensuing exchange, five terrorists were neutralised, effectively repelling the ambush and securing the GOC’s movement.

Following the counter-ambush, soldiers conducted a thorough sweep of the area, leading to the recovery of a significant cache of arms and other items.

Recovered exhibits include one OJC gun, one PKT gun, two AK-47 rifles, four AK-47 magazines, one bandolier of PKT ammunition, and several rounds of 12.7mm ammunition. Troops also recovered a camel bag containing ₦840,000, two mobile phones, and five motorcycles.

Troops have since maintained a strong presence in the area to forestall further attacks and sustain operational dominance.

Osoba stated that the successful operation highlights the continued resolve of 8 Division Nigerian Army to safeguard communities and neutralise terrorist threats across the North West.
