Ude Makes U-turn, Says Umahi Not Owing Him

By Alice Etuka, Abuja

In what can best be described as a turn of events, Obinna Ude who had earlier circulated a video on social media stating that the Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi was indebted to him in the sum of ₦7 million for a job he executed has swallowed his words and have come forward to publicly apologize to the Minister and the general public for “making misleading, malicious, and damaging claims against him”.

This was contained in a statement signed by Umahi’s Spokesperson, Francis Nwaze on Monday.

TheFact Daily however, gathered that the new development may be as a result of intimidation from the Minister and his allies.

“Obinna Ude had earlier circulated a video on social media stating that the Minister was indebted to him in the sum of ₦7 million for a job he claimed to have executed. His video came the same period a similar claim was also made by one Mrs. Tracy. Both videos gained attention online despite the absence of any verifiable evidence.

“However, a careful review of the matter clearly established that Obinna Ude Nkama never had any contractual engagement whatsoever with the Honourable Minister, and that Senator David Umahi is not indebted to him in any form.

“Having realized the facts of the matter, Obinna Ude has now publicly retracted his allegation and tendered an apology, acknowledging that his earlier statement was made out of frustration”, the statement said.

In a video he released yesterday, he stated:

“I am Chief Obinna Ude Nkama, who made a derogatory post that has been trending over the malicious outburst I made against my leader out of anger and frustration.

“My leader, most distinguished Senator Engr. David Umahi, CON, I wish to clarify that the honorable minister is not owing me directory. I hereby wish to apologize publicly and to ask His Excellency, Senator David Umahi to forgive me. I plead never to do that again because Senator Umahi is a man of high integrity and a very good man.

“This video is not done out of duress, pressure or request from anyone. On behalf of my family, wife and well-wishers, I publicly apologize and should I renege in any form in this matter, I ask my leader to go to court without notice.”

Nwaze therefore said, “with this development, members of the public are called upon to carefully sieve the information they consume and share, as not every allegation making trends on social media is without false intent. Responsible public discourse demands patience, verification, and fairness.

“Senator Engr. David Umahi, CON, remains focused on the national assignment entrusted to him by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to transform Nigeria’s road infrastructure under the Renewed Hope Agenda. His record in public service continues to show discipline, integrity, and accountability, values that have defined his leadership over the years”.
