UN Commemorates 2025 International Day Of Older Persons

The United Nations International Day of Older Persons (UNIDOP) will on Wednesday October 1,2025 host the 35th anniversary celebrations with special attention for the aged and older persons around the world.

In Nigeria, the event is slated to take place in Abuja, according to a statement signed by   the Executive Director, Global Knights Foundation, Ngozi John-Uyah.

According to her, the global theme for this year’s celebration is, “Older Persons Driving Local and Global Actions: Our Aspirations, Our wellbeing and our Rights” would frame discussions on the crucial roles older persons play in society while also highlighting the challenges they face in Nigeria and beyond.

Global Knights Foundation, a non-profit organisation is dedicated to the advocacy, care, and protection of vulnerable persons with particular focus on older and ageing population, and it joins the international community to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the United Nations International Day of Older Persons (UNIDOP) on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.

To commemorate this year’s UNIDOP 2025, there will be practical and hands-on profesional discussion which will be kicked off by Dr. Musa Bawa of ABG as the Keynote Speaker.

Bawa is a Mentalist, Wellness coach, Naturopath and a Professional Mind Coach with over 40 registered corporate and private clients in eight countries.

He is the Founder and Chief Happiness Officer of HALAL Wellness Club and has been working with Older Persons for over three decades.

Panel Discussants include; Mr. Fred Ohwahwa – President, Just Friends Club of Nigeria, Dr. Hajara Njidda Amoni – Director of Administration, Made in Nigeria Project Office Abuja, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Umma Umar Mohammed PhD – Manager, Programmes, NTA HQs, Prince Emeka Kalu, RATTAWU National President and Dr. Ufuoma Omo-Obi, a global health professional & MD/CEO West and Central Africa Health Options Ltd/Gte.

The commemorative event will feature a Keynote Paper presentation and a panel discussion addressing the peculiar and prevailing issues confronting older persons.

The statement invites media professionals, policy advocates, and stakeholders to attend and engage in this important dialogue.

It flags off by midday at Suite 004, Sticks and Stones Plaza, 1245 Adetokunbo Ademola Crescent,Wuse 2, in Abuja.

“Global Knights Foundation calls on the media, development partners, and the public to join in amplifying the voices of older persons and in advancing their rights, well-being, and aspirations,” the statement added.
