The Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo has promised to give Nigerians the best in terms of road maintenance and safety across Federal roads network.
Director of information in the ministry, Maryam Sanusi disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.
Sanusi said the Minister gave the promise during a familiarisation tour of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) Headquarters on Wednesday.
Goronyo emphasized that Nigerians deserved the best experience in pleasurable ride and security from all forms of danger when using the road.
He however, noted that the poor budgetary allocation for roads maintenance in the country was a factor militating against the realisation of this dream.
He stated that President Bola Tinubu had given priority to infrastructure, especially road infrastructure but poor budgetary provision occasioned by competing needs from all sectors and the state of the economy had made things difficult.
The Minister who was in company of the Permanent Secretary, Engr. Adebiyi Olusesan Olufunso visited FERMA proposed Corporate Headquarters of the Agency on the Abuja Airport Road.
He said he was comfortable with the performance of the Agency and was ready to give all necessary support to ensure the presidential mandate is achieved in the road sector.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Works, Engr. Adebiyi Olufunso, stressed that it was because funds were inadequate and releases not timely, that the country was witnessing some setbacks in the road sector.
He noted that FERMA staff are highly committed to duties and the Agency possesses some of the best staff in the Civil Service.
In his response, the Managing Director/CEO, Engr. Emeka Agbasi, appreciated the Minister of State for his support and commitment to seeing that the Federal roads network is motor able all year round.
