The Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare of its officers and ratings by ensuring they have access to decent and secure accommodations.
A statement issued on Thursday by the Nigerian Navy’s spokesman, Commodore Aiwuyor Adams-Aliu, says the CNS reiterated the commitment while commissioning several facilities at Ebubu-Eleme and Borokiri in Port Harcourt, Rivers State on Wednesday.
Commodore Adams-Aliu said the multiple commissioning of projects are in line with the Chief of the Naval Staff Strategic Directives to promote welfare and morale of the Nigerian Navy personnel to ensure a happy homogenous, willing and ready Naval Force and is part of the ongoing Nigerian Navy End of Year activities.
The facilities commissioned by Vice Admiral Ogalla include: Parade Ground and Pavilion, Junior Rates’ Mess, Senior Rates’ Mess, Headquarters Naval Training Command Officers’ Mess,
2 blocks of Ratings’ Accommodation with 47 rooms each, and 1 block of
56×1 bedroom flat apartments.
In his remarks, the Chief of the Naval Staff promised to continue addressing the issues of inadequate accommodation to boost NN personnel welfare.
“We are rehabilitating and bringing back abandoned accommodations to become useful for us because we have a very serious challenge of inadequate accommodation. We have put a lot of our resources to make sure that whichever one we can do is done properly, in addition to the new ones that we are building in Port Harcourt and other areas”, the CNS said.
