
The Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu has stated that the ministry was working on all the possible and available power options, including grid and none grid options to meet the electricity needs of Nigerians, in line with the renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu.
Chief Adelabu stated this weekend, at the 2nd Edition of the EnergyTimes newspaper award, where he was named the Power Sector Personality of the year for his outstanding contribution to the sector.
Justifying the award, the organisers said Chief Adelabu was honored in, “ recognition of your outstanding leadership, vision and contributions to the power sector. Through your tireless efforts, innovative approach and commitment to excellence, you have made a significant impact on the industry, driving growth and efficiency and sustainability in the Nigeria’s power sector”.
Represented by his Special Adviser on Strategic Communications and Media, Bolaji Tunji, Adelabu said the award reminded him of the immense responsibility “we bear in transforming Nigeria’s energy landscape”.
“Electricity is the lifeblood of any economy—the catalyst for industrialization, job creation, and socio-economic development. Yet, we are acutely aware of the gaps that persist: from grid inefficiencies to the need for diversified energy sources, including renewables.
“Consequently and in order to ensure stable, reliable and regular supply of energy, we have prioritized the following under the Renewed Hope Agenda: Grid Strengthening andExpansion– To reduce outages and improve supply reliability.Renewable Energy Integration – Leveraging solar, hydro, and other clean energy solutions to bridge the power deficit. Policy and Investment Reforms – Creating an enabling environment for private sector participation and foreign direct investment. Rural Electrification – Ensuring no community is left in the dark through decentralized energy solutions”, the Minister said.
According to him, “this award is not just a personal honourbut a testament to the collective efforts of our government, partners, and industry players in tackling the critical challenges of power generation, transmission, and distribution in Nigeria. It reinforces our commitment to ensuring stable, affordable, and sustainable energy for all Nigerians—a mission we are relentlessly pursuing under the visionary leadership of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR”.
Receiving the award, Adelabu reaffirmed his commitment and that of the Ministry of Power to delivering tangible results.
“The road ahead is demanding, but with the unwavering support of all stakeholders, I am confident that Nigeria will soon achieve the energy stability it deserves.
“I am deeply humbled by this recognition, which I dedicate to the hardworking team at the Federal Ministry of Power, its agencies and all the stakeholders driving Nigeria’s energy sector forward”, the Minister said.
Among the energy sector players who were part of the celebration with the Minister were the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC), EngJennifer Adhigie, the CEO, Eko Electricity Distribution Company, Madam Rekiah Momoh, the CEO, Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company, Mrs Folake Soetan, the Chairman, MOJEC, Mrs Mojisola Abdul , and the GMD, MOJEC, MsChantelle Abdul.
