
The Western Naval Command (WNC) is seeking to collaborate with the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) with the primary objective of enhancing security in Nigeria’s waters to support maritime businesses.
The Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) of the WNC, Rear Admiral MG Oamen, disclosed this when he paid a courtesy visit to the Managing Director (MD) of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, on Wednesday in Lagos.
Rear Admiral Oamen, while stating that the main purpose of the visit was to formally introduce himself to the NPA management, he also informed them that the WNC is committed to resolving security issues in Lagos’ ports even as new measures are being developed to address the issues.
He further conveyed the greetings and goodwill message of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla to the MD of the NPA.
In response, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho thanked the FOC WNC and his team for the visit, congratulated Rear Admiral Oamen on his appointment as FOC WNC and offered prayers for God’s guidance during his tenure.
The MD acknowledged the contributions of the Nigerian Navy (NN) in the recent declaration of Nigeria’s waters as piracy-free by the International Maritime Bureau and assured that the NPA would continue to collaborate with the NN to further improve the security of Nigeria’s ports and waters.
