Youths Set Kano Police Station Ablaze After Man Dies In Custody

A group of angry youths have set part of the Rano Divisional Police station in Kano State on fire after a young man, Abdullahi Musa, died in police custody during interrogation.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna, confirmed the incident which occured on Monday.
It was gathered that Musa was arrested on Sunday after being accused of a traffic offence. He however later died while in police custody, which caused outrage in the community.
The protest is said to have started peacefully but turned violent as angry youths damaged part of the police station and set some vehicles on fire. The situation worsened when police officers allegedly opened fire on the crowd, injuring two young men.
SP Haruna disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, along with the chairman of Rano local government area, Mallam Mohammed Ya’u, had visited the area to conducted an on-the-spot assessment.
