Nigerian Navy Refutes Claims Of Student Brutalization In Secondary School

The Nigerian Navy has reacted to a viral video showing the brutalization of a student by an instructor in one of its secondary schools, in Abeokuta.

According to a statement signed by the Service’s Director of Information, DINFO, Commodore Suleiman Dahun, on Tuesday, 16 November, the video of the incident, which took place in Abeokuta, was sent to the management of the school by a concerned parent who declined to specify when the incident took place and the person involved.

TheFact Nigeria gathered that from preliminary investigation, the incident took place 2 sessions ago and was handled administratively.

The NN further disclosed that, “for the avoidance of doubt, further investigation is ongoing on the matter and parents are advised to avoid recycling these sorts of materials in order not to create tension and ill feelings”.

The statement further asserts that while the NN is committed to providing top class education in her schools under a conducive atmosphere, she is also not “unmindful of the need to uphold standards and discipline in her schools without recourse to unorthodox methods of achieving these goals”.
