The Lagos State government has unveiled a development master plan for Ikorodu, a suburb in the state.
The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, disclosed that the government has goals that include a vision for a safer, cleaner and more competitive modern area.
Olumide said the government was determined to develop the area in phases exploring Ikorodu’s greenfield, waterway and lagoon front potential to drive economic growth, improve the quality of life and make the plan an attractive investment destination in Lagos State for the next 20 years.
“Today we are gathered for the launch of the Ikorodu Sub-Region Master Plan, which aims to enhance the community. This plan includes public presentations regarding the construction of roads and water systems to improve the lives of residents.”
“This presents numerous opportunities, such as government-approved housing. The community must take this chance seriously as unapproved construction is not allowed. Let us work together to develop our community and create a better future,” he said.
The Commissioner further said the development of Ikorodu public transit system would be supported with infrastructural development that would cope with population growth.
“More so they are many benefits of the approval that ensures that buildings are constructed according to legal and safety standards, preventing potential hazards and protecting the rights of residents. Government approval considers factors like urban planning and environmental impact, helping to ensure that new developments are sustainable and integrate with existing infrastructure.
“Properties that have undergone government approval are often seen as more valuable due to their compliance with legal and safety standards. Government approval can ensure that housing developments provide benefits to the local community, such as access to public amenities and transportation,” he said.
The Ayangburen of Ikorodu Oba Kabiru Adewale Shotobi, expressed gratitude to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the launch of the Ikorodu Sub-Region Master Plan:
