Rivers Police Arrest Two Suspected Car Thieves, Recover Vehicles

Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have arrested two suspects for their alleged involvement in the theft of two vehicles.

The state Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, in a starement on Sunday, described the arrests as another major breakthrough in its sustained efforts to curb car theft and snatching across the state.

She revealed that operatives of the Command’s C4I Intelligence Unit, on 20 November 2025, at about 6pm, acting swiftly on credible intelligence, intercepted the suspects and recovered the stolen vehicles in their possession.

The arrested suspects are 43-year-old Abubakar Abdulsalam and 35-year-old Shagari Shehu, and tinclude a white Toyota Hilux bearing a fake registration number GWA 453 GR and a grey Toyota Corolla with a fake registration number LSD 420 BT. Both vehicles have been secured in police custody for discreet investigation.

Iringe-Koko said the suspects are currently undergoing intensive interrogation as investigators work to uncover the full circumstances of the theft, establish each suspect’s level of involvement, and determine possible links to other vehicle-related crimes in the state, adding that efforts are also underway to track down additional members of the suspected criminal network.
