Gunmen Kill 12 Miners, Abduct Three In Plateau

No fewer than 12 persons have been killed, three abducted, and five others injured after armed men carried out an attack on local miners in Fan, a community in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, Plateau State.

The National President of the Berom Youth Moulder Association, Barrister Solomon Dalyop, confirmed the incident which reportedly occurred around 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday while the victims were engaged in what community leaders described as legitimate mining activities.

TheFact Daily notes that only yesterday, the Executive Governor of Plateau state, Barr. Caleb Muftwang paid a courtesy visit to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Headquarters, Abuja, where he met with the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, and acknowledged the complexity of the operating environment, noting that the state is dealing with challenging asymmetric warfare. He also stressed the need for sustained cooperation, particularly during festive and farming seasons when security threats are often heightened.

Dalyop condemned the incident and described it as another painful reminder of the persistent insecurity confronting communities in the State, particularly those engaged in lawful economic activities.
The injured victims were said to have been rushed to nearby medical facilities for treatment, while efforts are ongoing to locate and rescue those abducted.
