Following the persistent grid collapse in the country, the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) has assured that before the end of 2026, the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system would be fully deployed across the electricity value chain, from generation through transmission to distribution.
NISO said that the integration of the electricity value chain into a unified SCADA platform, would enable real-time visibility, improve grid monitoring, and enhance system reliability and stability.
The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of NISO, Engr. Abdu Mohammed Bello, gave this assurance during an inspection visit to the SCADA implementation site at the Gwagwalada transmission substation.
Engr. Bello was also quoted in a statement made available by the NISO on Thursday to have described the ongoing 350MW Gas Independent Power Project (IPP) by the Nigerian National Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) as a vital step toward achieving the national target of 8,500MW grid generation capacity by the end of 2026.
The NISO boss gave the commendation during an on-site assessment visit to the project location in Gwagwalada.
Leading a high-level management delegation, he evaluated the current stage of construction and identified key areas for enhanced collaboration to accelerate project completion and timely commissioning.
