Police Warn Residents Ahead of Live-Fire Exercise In Kano

The Kano State Police Command has alerted residents to planned live ammunition shooting exercises by the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Customs Service in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area.

A public notice issued on Thursday by the Command’s spokesman, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, urged the public to stay away from the exercise area during the scheduled period, adding that the exercises would be held separately at the Hawan Kalibawa Shooting Range.

According to Kiyawa, the Kano State Police Command will conduct its live-fire exercise on Saturday, July 18, 2026, from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., while the Nigeria Customs Service Training College, Goron Dutse, will hold its exercise from Monday, July 20, to Thursday, July 23, 2026, between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. daily.

The Command advised residents of Dambazau, Gangaren Dutse, Tumfafi, Kakurum, Dandalama and neighbouring communities in Dawakin Tofa and Ungogo Local Government Areas to avoid the shooting range throughout the exercise.

It also urged members of the public not to panic upon hearing gunshots, explaining that the sounds would emanate from scheduled and controlled training exercises.

The Police assured residents that adequate safety measures had been put in place to safeguard lives and property before, during and after the exercises.
