The Kano State Police Command has dismantled an arms-dealing syndicate in Dala Local Government Area of the state.

According to a statement on Sunday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Haruna, the operatives also recovered three fabricated AK-47 rifles, live ammunition and other dangerous items during a sting operation.

He explained that the operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad, acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, carried out the operation on May 9, 2026, at Dandinshe Quarters.

Haruna said, during the raid, police arrested a 35-year-old suspect, Umar Danladi Usman of Kurna Layin Masallacin Juma’a, while he was driving a tinted ash-coloured Honda Accord with registration number TFA 680 AA.

He said the search of the suspect and the vehicle led to the recovery of three fabricated AK-47 rifles, five live cartridges, one AK-47 empty shell, a suspected fake police identity card, three jack knives and a pair of jungle desert boots.

Police said the suspect confessed to procuring the weapons from Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The suspect is currently in custody while investigations continue to track down other members of the syndicate and dismantle the arms supply network.

The Commissioner of Police commended the operatives for the successful operation, describing it as a reflection of ongoing police reforms and intelligence-led policing strategies introduced by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu.

Bakori also reiterated the Command’s commitment to tackling illegal arms trafficking, kidnapping and other violent crimes across Kano State.
