Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have neutralized a suspected kidnapping kingpin during a gun battle at a criminal hideout in the Orile Ilugun Forest axis along the Abeokuta–Ibadan Expressway.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this on Tuesday, saying that the intelligence-led operation, carried out by the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, followed the successful rescue of a kidnap victim abducted on May 14, 2026, at Nufats Fuel Station in Odeda area of the state.
Babaseyi disclosed that the victim regained freedom unharmed on May 18, after which operatives intensified efforts to track down the abductors.
Acting on credible intelligence, the operatives stormed the gang’s hideout in the early hours of May 19. The suspects reportedly opened fire on sighting the police, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire.
The police operatives overpowered the gang, killing the suspected kingpin, while other members fled into the forest with gunshot wounds.
Recovered from the scene were an AK-47 rifle loaded with 20 rounds of 5.6mm ammunition, ₦2 million cash, and two mobile phones.
The Command said efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects, while the corpse of the slain suspect has been deposited at a morgue for autopsy.
Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their bravery and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling kidnapping and violent crimes across Ogun State.
