Nigeria, UK Deepen Security Cooperation At Abuja Defence Dialogue

Nigeria and the United Kingdom have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral security and defence cooperation at the Fourth Nigeria–UK Security and Defence Partnership (SDP4) Dialogue held in Abuja.

The three-day high-level meeting, which took place from June 22 to 24 at the Office of the National Security Adviser, brought together the Chief of Defence Staff, Service Chiefs, heads of security and intelligence agencies, as well as senior government officials from both countries.

The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, participated in the dialogue, which was led by the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and featured strategic reflections from the United Kingdom’s National Security Adviser, Jonathan Powell.

Discussions centred on enhancing practical cooperation in key areas, including defence, counter-terrorism, intelligence sharing, cyber security, hybrid threat response and institutional capacity building.

Participants also emphasized the need for a whole-of-government approach to addressing emerging security challenges and strengthening national and regional stability.

The dialogue reaffirmed the long-standing strategic partnership between Nigeria and the United Kingdom and underscored their shared commitment to promoting resilience, sustainable peace and effective responses to evolving security threats through trusted collaboration and mutually beneficial partnerships.
