The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has concluded a cascading exercise designed to align all its directorates with the agency’s 2026–2030 enterprise strategy to improve service delivery, strengthen institutional performance and advance climate resilience.
According to the agency on Tuesday the exercise follows the launch of NiMet’s 2026–2030 Strategy on March 16, 2026, and is aimed at translating the agency’s enterprise-wide goals into measurable, directorate level action plans.
Built on the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) framework, the strategy is anchored on five strategic pillars and 12 strategic objectives intended to provide a roadmap for improving meteorological services and enhancing organisational effectiveness.
According to NiMet, the cascading process was introduced to ensure that every directorate clearly understands its responsibilities and contributions toward achieving the agency’s long-term vision.
The exercise focused on aligning directorate-specific priorities with enterprise objectives, mapping operational activities to strategic outcomes, establishing key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure progress, and integrating strategic targets into individual staff performance plans to strengthen accountability and ownership.
To facilitate effective participation, the exercise was conducted in four batches involving the agency’s nine directorates and the Office of the Director-General.
The sessions covered the Directorates of Weather Forecasting Services, Applied Meteorological Services, Corporate Services, Research and Training, Engineering and Technical Services, Human Resource Management and Administration, Finance and Accounts, Public Affairs and Customer Protection, Legal Services, as well as the Office of the Director-General/CEO.
NiMet said the initiative is expected to deepen coordination across the agency, improve operational efficiency and ensure that every directorate contributes effectively to achieving the objectives of the 2026–2030 strategy.
The agency added that the strategic alignment would strengthen institutional capacity, enhance accountability and support its vision of delivering world-class meteorological services that contribute to Nigeria’s national development and climate resilience agenda.
