Vice President Kashim Shettima has left Abuja for Luanda, Angola, to represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 21st Extraordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union.
This was disclosed in a statement on Saturday by the Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media & Communications, Stanley Nkwocha.
According to him, the summit brings together African leaders to chart strategies for conflict resolution and to advance lasting peace and stability across the continent.
Discussions will center on practical solutions to regional security challenges and on strengthening collective mechanisms for preventing and resolving conflicts.
Nigeria has long played a strategic role in peacebuilding efforts across Africa and beyond, and is expected to contribute actively to talks on reinforcing continental frameworks for conflict prevention, dispute resolution and sustained peace.
Accompanied by senior defence and security officials, Shettima will deliver President Tinubu’s address at the summit, setting out Nigeria’s position on the issues at hand and reaffirming the country’s commitment to peace and stability across Africa.
He is expected to return to Nigeria once his engagements in Angola conclude.
