The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has secured the conviction of a traffic offender who abducted and assaulted an FRSC marshal during a routine patrol along the Kubwa Expressway in Abuja.
The Corps’ spokesperson, Osondu Ohaeri, disclosed this on Wednesday.
According to him, the incident occurred on April 30, 2026, at about 9:00 a.m., when personnel of RS 7.19 Dutse Alhaji Unit Command, on special patrol at Gegu Filling Station, flagged down a Toyota Hilux with registration number YAB 931 AE for enforcement.
Instead of complying, the driver allegedly turned violent, assaulting and unlawfully abducting one of the marshals in the course of duty.
The situation was swiftly contained through the intervention of the patrol team and police personnel attached to the operation. The suspect was arrested and taken to the FCDA Police Station in Kubwa for investigation, while the vehicle was impounded.
Following prosecution, the court convicted the offender, ordering him to pay a fine of ₦72,000 or serve a three-month prison term. The court also awarded ₦50,000 in compensation to the assaulted FRSC operative.
FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, praised the professionalism and restraint of the patrol team despite the provocation, noting that attacks on enforcement officers undermine public safety and the rule of law.
He reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to enforcing traffic laws with civility and respect for human rights, while warning motorists against any form of violence or obstruction of officers on duty.
The Corps also urged the public to cooperate with enforcement agencies, stressing that compliance with traffic regulations is essential for safer roads and the protection of lives nationwide.
