Alleged Heavy Gunfire: No Shots Fired Says FCT Police Command

PRO, FCT Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh.

Amidst growing concerns about insecurity, the FCT Police Command has refuted reports suggesting heavy gun fire in Lugbe and Maitama areas in Abuja.

FCT Police Command’s spokesperson, DSP Josephine Adeh, disclosed this Wednesday.

TheFact reports that, according to the reports that surfaced Tuesday, 26 July, there was heavy gunfire going on simultaneously around 7:38pm, in Lugbe and Minister’s Hill, Maitama, two suburbs within the Federal Capital, Abuja.

Adeh said that following the receipt of the news, the Command’s Intelligence and Tactical asset was mobilised to the scenes only to find out that it was a false alarm.

She further stated that operatives maintained monitoring and surveillance of the area all night, “and with the intelligence at the disposal of the Command, it is important to categorically state that the news is on every scale unfounded and should be disregarded”.

Meanwhile, the Police Chief in the FCT, CP Babaji Sunday, while reassuring residents of unalloyed commitment to the safety of all and sundry in the Territory, called for calm noting that an investigation has commenced into the sources of “this and many other maliciously crafted write-ups targeted at promoting panic and apprehension in the Territory”.

He urged residents to only believe information released from official stables.
