By Anne Osemekeh, Abuja

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has assured that the Nigerian Army is enhancing its operational capacity to deliver improved security outcomes in Benue State and other parts of the country.

The Army Chief said this while speaking during a courtesy visit to the Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, at the Government House in Makurdi on Thursday, March 5, 2026.

The COAS said the acquisition of modern weapons and combat enablers—made possible through the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu—would significantly improve troops’ effectiveness in tackling insecurity.

He noted that the upgraded arsenal and critical military equipment are designed to confront emerging security threats and strengthen ongoing operations nationwide.

He also commended the Benue State Government and residents for their resilience and sustained support to security agencies, particularly troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE. Shaibu appealed for continued collaboration between the military, government authorities and local communities, stressing that strong synergy remains essential to restoring lasting peace and stability.

In his remarks, Governor Alia described the visit as timely and reassuring, especially at a period requiring intensified security efforts. He praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for equipping the Nigerian Army with sophisticated weapons and critical military hardware to address security challenges across the country.

The governor further commended the Army for its commitment to safeguarding lives and property and welcomed the deployment of additional troops to reinforce ongoing operations in the state.
