The Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI has accused remnants of Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) of launching a renewed propaganda campaign by circulating outdated photographs and recycled media reports to create panic and misrepresent the current security situation in the region.
In a statement issued on March 3, 2026, the task force said one of the materials being recirculated wass a July 9, 2020 report by YNaija, which falsely portrays bodies of soldiers as victims of a recent ambush.
According to the military, internal fact-checks confirmed that the report and accompanying images are old and are being deliberately reshared to give the impression that insurgents retain the capacity to inflict heavy casualties on troops.
Operation HADIN KAI dismissed claims that it recently lost 20 soldiers, describing them as false and part of a coordinated attempt to distort operational realities in the North-East.
It maintained that sustained and coordinated air and ground assaults have significantly weakened insurgent elements, leaving them in disarray.
The task force highlighted recent operational gains, stating that within the past week, troops dealt decisive blows to terrorist enclaves and logistics networks across multiple locations.
At Miyanti, Gajigana and Gajiram, insurgents attempting to regroup were engaged, with several fighters neutralised. Troops reportedly recovered anti-aircraft platforms, rocket bombs, machine guns and assorted rifles abandoned by fleeing fighters.
In a separate operation at Chabbal checkpoint, troops intercepted logistics supplies and seized ₦37 million allegedly intended to finance terrorist activities, a move described as a major setback to insurgents’ sustainment efforts.
Similarly, at Komala in Konduga Local Government Area, soldiers pursued fleeing fighters along the Gidan Kaji axis, neutralising 16 insurgents and recovering 20 bicycles, weapons and other logistics items.
The military said the cumulative successes recorded within a week underscore the continued degradation of terrorist capabilities, adding that insurgents have now resorted to psychological warfare in response to mounting battlefield pressure.
Operation HADIN KAI urged the public and media organisations to verify information through credible official sources before sharing content that could amplify terrorist propaganda.
Citizens were encouraged to remain calm, continue lawful activities and provide security agencies with timely intelligence.
