The Borno State Police Command has arrested two 17-year-old suspects over the alleged burglary of a provision shop in Maiduguri, recovering N430,000 believed to be part of the stolen proceeds.
The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, saying the suspects were arrested by operatives of the State Intelligence Department following credible intelligence.
The shop, located in the Gwange Zuwadawuri area of Maiduguri, was allegedly burgled in the early hours of August 20, 2026. The owner, Mohammed Bello Umar, reported the incident to the police on August 23.
According to the complainant, cash estimated at about N2 million, alongside provisions and other items, was stolen from the shop.
The suspects, identified as Hussain Mohammed and Rabiu Yusuf, both residents of Gwange Zuwadawuri, reportedly confessed to the offence during interrogation and allegedly named two accomplices, identified as Kalifa and Pato, who are currently at large.
Police said efforts were ongoing to arrest the two other suspects and recover additional stolen items.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, directed that the investigation be conducted thoroughly and professionally to establish the circumstances surrounding the burglary and ensure that all culpable persons are brought to justice.
The Command urged residents to report suspicious activities and provide credible information that could assist ongoing investigations and crime prevention efforts.
