CAC Alerts On Moves To Defraud Directors Of Newly Registered Companies

By Sunday Etuka, Abuja

The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has alerted the directors of newly registered companies of a ploy by some fraudsters to defraud them of their hard earned money.

CAC in a statement on Friday said, the fraudsters were sending messages to the directors requesting them to pay certain fees to obtain a tax identification number (TIN), amongst others.

The Commission said, it did not initiate such messages, stating that TIN is free and automatically generated from the Federal Inland Revenue Service upon incorporation, as the agencies have fully integrated the service.

It noted that the Federal Inland Revenue Service’s (FIRS) Tax Identification Number (TIN) is electronically generated and endorsed instantly on the certificates of relevant business entities upon registration with the Commission’s Company Registration Portal (CRP) at no cost.

It said, “All services of the Commission and fees are as published on the Commission’s website.

“Any notice, information, or update issued to the general public on the operations of the Commission are equally published on the website.

“The Commission therefore wishes to reassure the general public of its commitment to providing registration and regulatory services adequate to the expectations of its esteemed
customers, and the general public”, the CAC said.
