Delta: Police Arrest Two Suspects For Varsity Invasion, Robbery

Security operatives attached to the Delta State police command have apprehended two suspects for their alleged involvement in a robbery operation at the Western Delta University, Oghara, Delta State.

The state police command’s spokesman, SP Edafe Bright made this known in a i n Friday.

He said that following the armed robbery operation carried out by suspected armed robbers at the university on Thursday, 20 June 2024, the police chief in the state, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, directed that the case be transferred to the DPO, Ekpan Division, CSP Aliyu Shaba for a discreet investigation.

CSP Shaba, in compliance with the CP’s directive, swiftly embarked on an intelligence-led operation, and on Monday, 24 June, 2024 at about 6:30pm, the operatives trailed the suspects to a hotel in Aziza Junction Sapele Road, where they arrested Okoro Udochukwu and Sunday Dickson.

The duo are said to be members of a six-man gang terrorising Warri, Sapele, Oghara and other parts of Delta State and specializes in break-ins of churches, companies and warehouses while armed with guns.

Preliminary investigation revealed that on Wednesday, 26th of May 2024, they allegedly robbed a warehouse in Warri and stole 112 bags of rice, some of which they have sold.

The suspects led the police to the arrest of Arinze Ezisi and Titus Chinedu, alleged receivers of all the stolen properties.

Upon a diligent search conducted on their stores/houses the following items were recovered: 38 bags of rice, 1 silver crest blender, 1 inverter engine with 2 inverter batteries, 3 SHARP photocopying machines and 2 SHARP standing ACs, 5 home theaters, 1 Hisense Air Conditioner, 3 inter com machines, 1 50-inche black LG television , 2 shovels and 1 black Hisense speaker.

Others are: 8 yards of armoured cable, 6 generators, 5 stabilisers, 3 Kenstar A/Cs, 2 Hisense standing ACs, 3 Hisense inverter ACs, peculiar professional mixer, 3 Kenstar standing ACs, 1 Panasonic AC, 1 pumping machine, 5 sound prinex , 1 Yamaha piano, 5 gas cylinders, 21 amplifiers, 4 guitars, 4 LG speakers, 5 microwave ovens, 2 MP3s, 1 OX standing fan, 3 cushion chairs, 1 large vita foam mattress, and a large quantity of copper.

According to Edafe, the suspects carried out these operations using two sienna vehicles and one shuttle bus which they use to carry the stolen items.

“Efforts are on to arrest other members of the gang, and recover their operational vehicle”, Edafe said.
