Education Minister, Prof. Tahir Mamman and the Minister of State for Education Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu have applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the double-digit 2024 budget proposal for the Education sector, describing the development as a significant improvement over the last couple of years.

Director, Press and Public Relations of the Ministry, Bem Goong disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, December 5, 2023.

Goong said, the Ministers who stated this today at the start of a Two-Day Retreat for Education stakeholders in Uyo, the Akwaibom State capital promised to justify the confidence reposed in them by the President through the faithful implementation of the education Roadmap and the renewed hope agenda of Mr President.

Prof. Tahir Mamman noted, that with the Presidency and the National Assembly being on the same page in their resolve to confront the challenges facing the country, this administration was unstoppable.

Acknowledging the efforts of previous administrations in the development of the education sector, Prof.Tahir Mamman noted that a lot still had to be done in areas of infrastructural development, teacher quality, security of our institutions as well as access to quality education, especially for the vulnerable groups.

Prof. Tahir Mamman said, by giving top priority to the education sector in the 2024 budget, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was working the talk, adding that all hands must be on deck to ensure that Nigeria takes her pride of place in the Committee of Nations.

The Minister charged, in particular, Heads of Parastatals and Agencies to work assiduously and collectively to enhance the quality of education delivery at all levels for the benefit of the country.

Mamman used the occasion to appeal to all State Governors to work in partnership with the Federal government in order to achieve a vibrant, functional, and self-sustaining education sector for the country.

Speaking earlier in his welcome address, Minister of State for Education Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu noted that the proposed 2024 budget for the sector was an indication that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was tenaciously focusing on improving the quality of education for enhanced livelihoods, positive economic outcomes, and level playing field for all actors in the sector.

Dr. Sununu commended the dogged efforts of his colleagues, the Minister, the Permanent Secretary, and other stakeholders, whom he said, had worked assiduously for the development, critic, and compilation of the 2024-2027 Roadmap for the education sector, describing the retreat as an essential mechanism to drive the timely and effective implementation of the master plan.

He also called for the buy-in of stakeholders, particularly the states of the Federation to ensure the effective implementation of the Roadmap.

Participants at the retreat agreed on the need to set clear objectives and assign responsibilities as well as timelines for achieving the set goals.
