Enugu Airplane Veers Off Benin Runway, All 68 Onboard Safe

Sixty-eight passengers and crew aboard an Enugu Air aircraft escaped unhurt on Thursday after the aircraft veered off the runway shortly after landing at Benin Airport.

The incident involved an aircraft with registration number 5N-ENR, which reportedly overshot the runway and came to rest in a bushy area near the airport, prompting an emergency response by aviation authorities.

Officials of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) swiftly evacuated all passengers and crew from the aircraft without any injuries or fatalities.

Confirming the occurrence, Enugu Air said the aircraft experienced a runway incursion after landing in Benin.

“We confirm that all passengers and crew have safely disembarked and there were no injuries or casualties,” the airline said in a public notice.

The carrier disclosed that the aircraft had been secured and that the relevant aviation authorities had been notified in accordance with established safety procedures.

“The aircraft has been secured and the relevant aviation authorities have been notified in line with established procedures. An assessment of the aircraft and the circumstances surrounding the occurrence is currently underway,” the statement said.

The airline noted that the incident could result in temporary disruptions to some of its flight operations, adding that affected passengers would be contacted directly and provided with the necessary support.

“The safety of our passengers, crew and operations remains our highest priority. We appreciate your understanding and will continue to provide updates through our official communication channels,” it added.
