Ex-NUJ President, Isiguzo, Commends Security Agencies, Tasks Journalists On Responsible Reporting
By Sunday Etuka
Former President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Chris Isiguzo, has commended Nigeria’s security agencies for their efforts in safeguarding lives and maintaining stability across the country.
Isiguzo spoke at the National Security Summit organised by the Nigeria Union of Journalists recently in Abuja, where he said the very fact that such a gathering could be held in the nation’s capital was a reflection of the work being done by security personnel.
He urged the media to exercise caution and balance in reporting and criticising the country’s security situation, stressing that security operatives are individuals working under difficult and complex conditions.
According to him, security operatives are also relatives of people -fathers, uncles, brothers, sisters, sons and daughters, who continue to give their best within the circumstances they found themselves in and therefore deserve encouragement alongside constructive scrutiny.
Isiguzo further advocated regular engagement between heads of security agencies and media executives, noting that such interactions would help promote better understanding of security realities and provide context that may not always be reflected in public reports.
