FCT Not Under Attack – Joint Security Team

The Joint Security Team of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, has refuted reports claiming that the nation’s capital was under attack of the Boko Haram terrorists.

According to a statement today by ASP Yusuf Mariam, Police Public Relations Officer of the FCT Police Command, the FCT Joint Security Team, whose attention had been drawn to a viral publication in the social media, purporting that the ‘Federal Capital Territory is under the attack of Boko Haram Terrorists’, described the report as spurious and mischievous, aimed only at creating palpable tension amongst the well spirited residents of the FCT.

TheFact Nigeria gathered that, contrary to the speculation, the Heads of Security Agencies, HOSA, in the Federal Capital Territory, in a bid to address security concerns within the capital city, held a strategic meeting on Thursday 29th April, where the team resolved to deploy alternative proactive
crime fighting measures within the FCT, particularly in areas with challenging terrain, including aggressive motorized and foot patrols.

The patrols are to be conducted in line with the peculiarities of every terrain within the territory, the team having adopted the use of motorcycles, horses and other technical means of gathering intelligence to checkmate criminality within the FCT.

Consequently, the Joint Security Team chaired by the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Bala Ciroma, has enjoined residents to remain calm and law abiding, and to verify information before circulating such to avoid creating undue panic amongst members of the public.

Furthermore, the Joint Security Team, reaffirming its undeterred resolve towards the protection of lives and property, implores residents to report all suspicious movements, emergency or distress through these numbers: 08032003913, 08061581938, 07057337653, 08028940883 or 112.
